Description:

Forwarded cover from Peacham VT. Scott's US#11 at upper left postmarked PEACHAM VT Dec 15 (1856). Addressed originally to Mr. Charles A. Choate at Davenport IA. Choate had moved up-river to the new town of Port Byron, so another #11 was added to pay for forwarding and was canceled with DAVENPORT IA cds dated Dec 26 (1856) Port Byron had no post office so mail was handled by Rock Island IL, who applied their cds dated Dec 27 1856. Nothing on the reverse. Research shows it to have been sent by a family member. Mr. Choate was returning from the Gold Fields of California and had stopped for some time in Iowa.
