Description:

Blood's Penny Post, (1c) black, Henry Clay (#15L18) tied by grid in framed oval cancel, on locally addressed folded letter, with "Blood's Penny Post Philada. May 17 10½ A.M. 1860" circular datestamp. From Newhall & Sons, Pennsylvania Steam Sugar Refinery, Corner of Race & Crown Streets, Philadelphia, letter datelined 17 May 1860.

Since the handwriting is hard-to-read, I confirmed the name of the addressee: Boggs & Kirk were listed in the newspaper Philadelphia Age, September 4, 1865: "Wm. T. Kirk, Boggs & Kirk, Wholesale Grocers and Dealers in Country Produce, No. 10 Arch Street (between Front & Second) Philadelphia."
